Denton – I disagree. Joy is *the* book to start with. All the basics plus bells & whistles within reason.
Saw “How to Cook Everything”. I didn’t look at it cause I htought it was a stupid title.
I’ll check out all that are suggested. THANKS!!
I’m on a budget and won’t buy them new. I’m not a dope. I do want to look thru them first tho to make sure they have enough recipes that I’ll like.

Not so, denton, they have great segments on various food items, cuts of meat, seafood or whatever and techniques!

ET, I would recommend either of the Gourmet mag cookbooks, or the Bon Appetit cookbook. I also like some of Nigella Lawson’s cookbooks… but you can’t go wrong with the big ones I suggested… a LOT of recipes. You’ll get them dirty anyway so why not buy used from addall.com.
