Jessi – oh totallllly! – am in the middle of CONSTANT baby shower gifts, which then of course when baby arrives you then have to bring a little gift to the hospital or house when you visit for the first time – oy!
Benson – am sure that WAS a scandal! well i guess $10 30 years ago would be like $50 today?
jb, I do the engagement gift, but not the shower gift, though fortunately I have not (yet) been invited to these new co-ed showers (and I hope I’m not!!).
…there’s a place in Queens, quite popular
where the bride and groom rise out of the
floor through a special platform to the sound of
Thus Spake Zarathustra.
g10, my family owes my cousin and his parents BIG. I’ve always wanted to express my gratitude beyond just the usual thank you’s, etc. he would’ve gotten less expensive gift if he got married earlier but given I kept putting $$$ into that gift acct, it’s now enough for 2 rolexes. he aint getting no diamond studded ones or platinum band, etc; just the regular plain jane ones.
chicken, I took the job, and I hope I pass the background check because last Friday was my last day at my old job! Paperwork is unreal. They just called to tell me that, even though the instructions say fax a copy of a driver’s license OR passport, now they only want my passport!
Back in my day not as many people had cohabited as now so presents were important – toasters, towels, kitchen miscellany. I put together a “kitchen drawer” for a niece – tire bouchon, measuring cups & spoons, etc. – & it was over $150. 25 years ago!
jb, if you get invited to all of those, yeah, you would need to give something (ie can’t just bring your ass and appetite to those gatherings)
Cgar, isn’t strange how we have our own country clubs? I’ve never set foot in one that wasn’t Jewish.
Legion – yes -from Queens and Long Island

Who wouldn’t be allowed in a nice country club, Dave???? We Jews built our own country clubs since no one else would let us into theirs.
