I think the Tea Party movement has a great bunch of slogans but no clue as to the reality. It’s interesting how they grew so fast, even while the campaign was going on- after 8 years of the Bush Administration growing the government and national debt at an unprecedented rate and basically running the country into the ground, only in 2008 they take notice? one wonders. Whatever you want to claim about Obama and spending, even you should admit that he was handed an enormously dysfunctional government and economy. And to expect that to turn around in a year is, well, delusional.
DIBS, I wish this populist rage had even an ounce of sanity to it. Yes, it sounds wonderful to rail away at “pork”, but the percentage of the deficit due to it? Tiny.
This movement has no central core, has no idea what it really stands for or how to change it, and is spewing rage at just about anything ‘liberal’, because that’s what its being told to do. It is in actuality, shooting itself in its own foot. But it might do a lot of damage to everyone else in the meantime.

I don’t know – the city does pretty well for homeless people generally and we are always going to have people who are hanging on by a thread. But why are you so apologetic about being sickened by sitting next to a urine-soaked person for 15 minutes? Yesterday on the platform, a person was busted for taking a leak at the end of the platform. Four policemen came up to bust him (apparantly they had a bead on him trying it a little earlier elsewhere). The head policeman was absolutely joyous that they busted him with his d**k in hand. For me, I realize that this deviance gets to me and on the weekend, I will brave any kind of traffic situation to stay off the train. Remember Daniel Patrick Moynihan’s phrase ‘defining down deviance’? I know ‘there but for the grace of God go I’ and all, but isn’t it a bit much sometimes?
