What Iraq was supposed to be was an American presence, supposedly a stabilizing presence in the Middle East from what we have been able to distill from the wreckage of Bush’s foreign policy. It was a complete failure, a destabilizing influence (yes, Iraq and Iran fought a 10 year war, remember that?), led to a real strengthening of Iran. Now we have to to deal with a worse problem, Iran.
