  1. More4Less, it’s not necessarily the case that the historic district is far from the train. It depends.

You should check out the Chateau. It’s the nicest thing in the neighborhood next to the Towers (not as grand, unfortunately, but it’s good) and it’s significantly closer to the subway even though they’re close. Just one of the long blocks makes a big difference in Jackson Heights, especially in the winter.

My personal favorite is Laburnum Court, which is ultra close to the express trains. Like all the best apartments in Jackson Heights, they were built in the 1920s before the Depression and have elevators as well as walkable stairs, fireplaces, gardens, and maximum light and cross breeze with good window placement on opposite sides. The best layout is the one with the sunroom on the top floor. The apartments might be too small for you, though: Two bedrooms with five closets, one bath, and 1100 sf.

Those are the best options, but there are others. I could go on and on.

  2. “CGar, I just saw this place which is comparable to others you’ve been looking at. Maintenance is a bit high, but at least it has a deck included”

Thanks, Biff! I love it. And I love Pierrepont Street. It is exactly what I’m looking for right now. The listings have gotten so much better since you joined BHS! Please add this to our list of viewings this weekend. 😉

Yes, the maintenance is high, but the maintenance for co-ops I’ve been looking at in the Heights is in the 1,200-1,600 range. That’s what I’m going to be paying if I buy I co-op in a prime Heights location.

Separate living and dining rooms. Deck for CDog. 2 WBFs. En suite bath. Elevator for CDog – Brownstone stairs at her age are the only thing limiting me from apartments above the garden floor (or a duplex where she can stay on the lower level). WD. Large cook’s kitchen – had the same thought, Dave, about putting up a wall behind the stove. And CDog knows never to grab a pot handle when walking through the kitchen. (Yes, it really is all about her.)

All joking aside, I really love this apartment and want to see it.
