  1. DIBS at 10:47, that’s exactly the advice I gave her. The potential harm to my friend’s own employment is not something she should risk. It could cost her her job and a reference for a new job.

  2. I agree union clout is on the wane for industrial sector (though UAW will probably be stronger is GM and Ford survive).

But public sector clout has only gotten stronger, they are still holding on too many benefits that are long gone for the private sector. When Corzine is helping the public jersey unions get more money he knows who helps him most, no concern for those paying taxes.

  3. Could be much worse CGar- think of it as a welcome break from all the Republican yabbering we’ve had to listen to.

Biff- you’re betweeen a rock and a hard place but it would be very unethical of you to disclose that to her. If your boss finds out, it means you can’t be trusted with confidential information and would come back to bite you on the a$$. If you tell her, how do you think she’ll act? It wouldn’t take much for someone to figure out where she might have gotten the information.

  4. Biff — what’s the timeline for your friend? Is it like she’ll be fired next week and given 2 weeks… or is it like at then end of the fiscal year (say, June 30)?

If it’s the latter, I would wait and see if someone else (i.e., your boss) lets the shoe drop in the next while. If it’s more of an “urgent” situation, I would perhaps hint that she shouldn’t buy non-essentials this week… err, because you read it in her horoscope.

I’d have to say, though, cover your ass. Sucks, but it’s a crappy reality of stuff like this.

  5. Biff, in this environmeent, she better not cause trouble for her boss by “spilling the beans.” I’m sure a condition of her employment, stated or implied, is that her access to information is to be treated as non-disclosable.

When her friend finally finds out she’s getting axed she should just say that she never sees that sort of stuff and that it’s all done behind closed doors.

It’s a tough position to be in but that’s the responsibility that comes with the higher executive assistant position.

  6. pete and bxgrl,

    you want to laugh?

I had a brief stint as a union organizer
    as a hospital resident.lol.
As a member of CIR (committee for interns and residents).
yeah, I made the hospital fat cats pay up!
