Biff, honestly, I would keep my mouth shut — but I doubt it’s the right thing to do. I am a wimp when it comes to corporate politics. Or maybe you could say something to her like I hear there might be another round of cuts, not sure who…?
Last night another violent incident, this one right in front of my gate. Two men attacking a third. I thought I heard one of them saying over and over “So what if I’m gay, [[the you know what word]].” Presumably this was one of the guys doing the attacking. I turned on the porch light and then my neighbor pulled up and got out and proceeded to mess with her garbage right next to them as if there was nothing happening. They finally broke it up but it seemed like it took forever. Sometime later I saw a cop looking around with a flashlight but I don’t think he saw anything. This morning there was blood all over the snow right in front of my gate.
…that oaf who punched out Snooki is probably sitting in a union rubber room as we speak collecting good pay reading MAD magazine. at taxpayer’s expense.
the dude was a gym teacher.
thanks alot UFT!
bxgrl, to be clear (and I saw this coming), it isn’t ME in this situation. In this case, it really is my friend and not me who has the dilemma. It isn’t one of those times when I ask for advice about a “friend” who needs help with erectile dysfunction.
You are mixing apples and oranges. While Unions have declined precipitously in the private sector, their power in the public sector is increasing. Moreover, public sector unions (UFT, DC37, etc) have ENORMOUS clout in Albany and places like it. The UFT is by far the biggest lobbyist in Albany. This is a factual statement that can be easily verified. Their power is large enough such that they could recently block $700 million dollar in federal aid conditioned on increasing the limit on charter schools. That’s right: $700 million dollars passed up because the UFT is against education reform.
I have nothing but contempt for the UFT and its recent efforts to block education reform in NYS. Even a pro-union guy like Joe Klein of Time magazine wrote of his diddain for this union.
Want more examples of their arrogance? The NY Post is running a series on teachers who are held in the “rubber room”. They highlighted one guy who has been in the rubber room for nine years, while he awaits a ” procedure” to determine if charges made against him are true: groping some teenage girls. The guy is making $105K sitting around doing nothing. Thanks to the union contract, it’s been 9 years and counting. To make matters worse, they found that he spends his time in the rubber room running his real estate operations, all on the taxpayer’s dime.
What am I supposed to do?

Call 911 as it happens and report an assault.

tybur6, follow up from my friend:
“i think once they find a suitable replacement, she’s gone so the timeline is very open.”
Maybe I need a special section in the Forum just for me called “Violence.”

Funny, Legion! I bet you did!
(oh, and I meant your friend and not ‘you’ — I didn’t notice you were relaying a situation.)
