Biff- I rarely go out to the movies but I always have to get the popcorn and bucket of soda. along with either Raisinettes or goobers (depends on my mood) which get eaten in combination with the popcorn.
I need to know what toppings you’re using though I may need to try them.
Popcorn & soda at the movies though has got to be the biggest markup rip offs that exist. We all know it but we still all indulge. It’s mandatory isn’t it?

…according to our OT discussion a few weeks ago, after Biff posed a similar economic question about replacing hotel room peanuts, it is not necessarily unethical to sneak out the corner exit at the movies and bring in a bag of chips and a 40oz from the bodega.
bxgrl,
definition of small goverment;
government for the people and by the people! 😉
There was an audible gasp from the woman at Senator Schumer’s office a few weeks ago when I called and reminded her that the Senator does not in fact work for the President, but for the constituency.
“If I’m not mistaken, View From the Bridge is often discussed in tandem with On the Waterfront in the context of the 1950s HUAC & McCarthy hearings. Kazan testified and named names, Miller did not, and they broke, in part, over the depiction of informing in the two works. Both works have an obvious merit and power that transcends that issue, however.”

Another reason they are discussed in tandem is that they are both meant to depict a facet of Red Hook in the 1950’s. As you mention, there was the issue of the HUAC. Miller and others maintained that “On the Waterfront” was Kazan’s way of justifying the mertis of his testifying. To this day, Kazan denies that this was the basis of the movie. He often cites as the source of “On the Waterfront” a series of newspaper articles (I believe in the old Herald Tribune) about a priest out of Xavier in Manhattan who fought against the corruption on the waterfront.
Whatever his motiviations, “On the Waterfront” is a great movie about the corruption on the docks. My father could regale you with stories about Anastasia and his antics. I once mentioned on another thread that my father once had a run-in with him. He and his buddies were having lunch in a Red Hook joint where Anastasia held court. When they were leaving, as a joke they started to get on their hands and knees and crawl out (pretending they were dodging bullets). Anastasia was not amused. He sent one of his goons over to tell my father and his friends to “knock it off”. They got right up and ran out.
“my cough and on/off high fever blew up into a full blown cold and bronchitis by Friday, so I abandoned all my plans for the weekend and stayed in. “-
you really need to take better care of yourself. Wear a hat out in the cold. Otherwise you will bankrupt our health insurance industry.
As much as they mark up the popcorn and the soda at movies, it’s so worth it. Half the time I go to movies it’s just an excuse to stuff my face with popcorn. I even bring my own popcorn toppings, pathetic as I am.
“Uuuuum, Salt? Butter?
What else is there?”
Are you really that out of it?

Yes, ET, I’m wondering what Biff puts on his popcorn as well.

Dave that dog is PAINFULLY huge. What a honey of a face though. I would love to give him a big hug.
Oh jeez…I can’t believe I’m thinking this but, I hope he’s not a humper. That could end tragically.
