“CGar- my only concern is that the new salary will still allow you to buy me more homes. I am willing to sell some of the one you’ve already bought me to tide you over but i feel we must look to the long view here. :)”
The Obama speech was basically more of the same.
Nice talk but no substance.
First off, I love the way President Obama continues the same old cliche’s about the great old days, like when he says there was a budget surplus handed to Bush, when in fact this was simply a governmental sleight of hand.
In fact the National Deficit was never reduced, not once during the clinton years! Check out the Treasury Department web site if you don’t believe me. What happened during the Clinton years was a surplus of tax revenues were deposited and automatically turned into intergovernmental holdings (this is the law in fact) so basically the government borrowed from SSI tax revenues to fund the budget instead of putting out treasury bills and bonds, thus giving the appearance of governmental restraint but in reality, the government still owes that money to SSI which is due to go bankrupt in 2035.
Next, I love the way President Obama pats himself on the back for “saving the banking industry” in 2009. When it was Bush that signed the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) in Dec. of 2008 if I’m not mistaken (Obama agreed as well) which was applied to the 2009 budget (budget year ends in sept.)
Then!!!! Obama turns around and bashes Bush for “handing” him a 1.4 Trillion deficit!!!! Hello, that was the deficit caused by the TARP plan you just signed off on and took credit for in saving the economy. COME ON NOW!
In all, I counted 6 Blame Bush references. But that’s ok, if the President doesn’t want to learn from his past mistakes, he will be doomed to repead NJ, VA and MA once again in Nov.
CarGar, go for it, sounds like an excellent opportunity.
Cobble, I was offended that when the governor spoke about improving poor schools, the camera immediately panned to the one black young man sitting with a bunch of other school aged kids. That was the tv director’s fault, and pissed me off. What, only black kids attend poor schools? Hello…..not true on several levels, and just wrong.
Reminded me of when I was in high school and the only black kid in the American history class. The teacher started to talk about the Civil War and slavery, and everyone turned and looked at me. Hey, I wasn’t there, ok?
There’s also little point in my staying at 46th & Lex. First Dave moves away. Now etson’s going to Toronto. All I have left is crazy purple leggings guy!

So how will everyone be celebrating?”

Not looking to debate but quick reaction — good speech, in control, it was the Obama we elected. He frames issues really well and he’s good when he has center stage. His problem is fighting for and owning center stage when it isn’t a given or chosen forum.
If he gets 1/3 done of what he proposed, and some of it won’t be hard to do, we will be a better country for it. But he has to own the political space much better and not let his adversaries define him in between the big speeches. He has to own enough of the space for there to be a steep political price for saying no 100% of the time. Last night was a start in the right direction but he has to make it happen politically, not just rhetorically and on policy.
CGar- my only concern is that the new salary will still allow you to buy me more homes. I am willing to sell some of the one you’ve already bought me to tide you over but i feel we must look to the long view here. 🙂
Seriously- I think you should go for it. I went through the same thing in the 90’s and took the new job. Never regretted it but making the decision nearly gave me an ulcer.
LOL, Dave. Totally agree about JC. No one here wants to leave 46th & Lex for JC – that’s probably the worst part of the merger. One of my friends and colleagues suggested I talk to my boss’ boss before making a final decision, which I’m inclined to do. He clearly new she was lying to him, and I had an assignment from him, via her, before I’d even gotten back to my office, but he doesn’t really seem inclined to do anything about her – at least not yet – and she’s apparently been pulling the same crap with other people.

And get that tent off my deck!! LOL!!
…alright, I’ve held back until now.

Not that difficult to get to JC. One stop on PATH from World Trade.
2 short subway rides instead of one longer one.
(But you should prob still make the change, CGar)

“And if anyone thinks they don’t pay enough taxes – just send a check to the US Treasury. They’ll cash it.”
You bet! LOL!
