you are probably right that we will outgrow the space, but I have to admit we have looked for 6 months now and we ain’t really finding much and I have to say the allure to have a pre-war apartment with a radiator and normal windows and wood is appealing amongst all the new condos…
but we have a second look scheduled, so we can make up our minds then…
jessi, no Hok but the short dude who is in the same dance group with him was there. He is a spanish breakdancer kid but I forgot his name. Also the winner of that season was there. Most of the guys are like 5’5, 5’6 tops. The interesting part is that the most talented dancers in that group who make all of them look like amateurs were never on any of the seasons but they all knew each other and hang out with each other. When I asked my friend how come they didn’t try out, he said that not everyone needs to be on TV and the most talented ones don’t want to be filmed and exposed. They do well enough without that kind of exposure.
Quick response to rob with a post that Legion, bx, snappy and montrose might like (no politico). I’ve been reading a really good biography of Thelonious Monk. Anyway, serious jazz fans know about the Baroness Pannonica de Konigswarter, a Rothschild renegade who immersed herself in the NYC jazz world and was a friend to Monk, Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Art Blakey, and others, traveling with them, helping them out financially and with various life issues, and generally beibng at the center of the scene. (hold on rob, I’m getting to the part you might care about) She eventually bought a big house in Weehawken overlooking the Hudson and various musicians convalesced there, often for years in their waning days, including Monk. In any case, turns out the baroness was a crazy cat lady, too. The part I didn’t know about before was tht she had upwards of 60 cats in that house (real cats, not jazz cats). Monk couldn’t stand them.
Silversun Pickups are a band from LA – the singer has this really high pitched girlish falsetto and they have like ONE good song. Really don’t like that band – they sound kinda like Coheed and Cambria/Rush. Can’t see how they’d get it, unless they Grammys have a west coast bias.
Good luck to your boys though! Best new artist? ha i love that – they’ve been around forever.
Sorry Benson — you’re right. Roman Tribunes were the random selection ones. I’m all for that. Have you seen the nutjobs we hire for the House of Reps? I think random selection would be just as effective.
Listened to an awesome newish band for the first time last night – Delphic.
They have been getting some good press coverage in the UK, especially in Manchester. Debut album just came out.
Apparently two of them went to the same high school as I did (a long time after I was there!).
DH:
who, MGMT? Best New Artist is a tough category this year b/c there really isn’t a standout artist, you know?
not really sure. I love Keri Hilson, but she won’t get it, so that narrows it down. Who are the Silversun Pickups? If they are a country band that sells gobs of records, they might get it. I would be shocked if Ting Tings get it, howeever I do like them a lot!

DH – oddly I dig Rush, Neal Pert is the BEST drummer of all time! – Coheed – ugh, however the lead singer is a SUPER nice guy
haha – you know better than I would about MGMT’s career span – hipster
Oh, and welcome back, wasder. We missed you.
OK,

Legion, did you know about Nica’s cats?
Yeah GEM

Sound is most similar to New Order IMO – mix of guitar / electronic.
