G10, there’s not a lot of apartments for sale within Ditmas Park – mainly bigger houses.
Having said that, the condos at 1600 Beverley Rd have been advertised for ages with seemingly little interest so could do a deal. Maintenance is low and most of the apartments seem to have balconies.
She certainly has a fascinating story, they should make a movie about her. I didn’t know about her many cats though!
There is an urban legend that cats have that kind of influence on people.
I know the Baroness has more Jazz compositions about her than the woman that Eric Clapton and George Harrison fought over. what’s her name?…I think Eric wrote Layla about her and George wrote Something about the same woman.
Benson — I’m all for it. Well, as long as it doesn’t get all Nazi Germany up in here. But otherwise, let’s get a rotating Tribunal randomly selected and a few dictators lined up. You’d have to admit, if we had a benevolent dictator we’d get a lot more accomplished with a lot less government. Probably save a bundle that we could spend on bridges and such.
Chicken:
ideally Park Slope, but we have widened our net to Ditmas Park/WT/Pros Hts/Kensington. I saw a few places come on lateley on Ocean PArkway – so we will check those out
we just reallllllly want to stay in Park Slope
G10, are you only considering Park Slope or are you willing to widen your net? You could get a lot more for your money if you consider less gentrified areas.
I got really sick on Thursday night. I had a headache all day Thursday and then that night I woke up vomitting and ended doing that over the course of Thursday night into Friday. It was really bad. Beware of some stomach virus going around!
The other thing you might be thinking is the position of Dictator. Today that position sounds ominous, but in Roman times it was basically the equivalent of short-term martial law.
The most famous dictator was Cincinattus (for whom the present-day city is named after, and who was George Washington’s role model). The passage in Gibbon’s “Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire” which describes the scene when the Senate approaches Cincinattus to be dictator is well worth reading. The guy was working on his farm. He agreed to the position, got the job done in short order(vanquished the enemy) and then retired back to his farm. Gibbon’s moral as to the source of his power is spot on.
I think it is telling that in the early days of this country we named our cities after the greats from antiquity (men and cities) or saints. We looked up. Nowadays we stare at our navel, as can be seen with the stupid names given to new suburban developments (“Whispering Glens”, “Hallowed Hollows” and such). Nauseating.
Benson,
something came up so shifting Chadwicks for this coming weekend
