THL, oh god just read your post, but good for you! Yes there is still the “old school boys club” mentality in the financial world. I just heard a story from a young woman who worked for one of the big banks on a trading floor and she went to HR and spoke to a woman and complain how a colleague was inappropriately touching her. The woman responded with “you’re a woman on wall street! Deal with it!”
That made me feel like we were back in the 70’s. The shocking thing it was one woman telling another! I can definately see an EEOC filing there.
…personally I have brought the fine art of objectifying women to a new level in my professional career, it always leads to new and interesting experiences. 😉
I’m setting the wayback machine for 1972 and sending you into a good old fashioned CR group (don’t worry, you’ll have cartoon sidekicks). Very old fashioned to think having a kid means you are not committed to the job (if you are a woman). Advancement should be based on performance, not whether you have a kid. And what about dads? Not my area of the law but it may be actionable to put it in such stark terms — telling a woman “if you have a kid, don’t think you’ve got a future here” or anything to that effect.
LFW, total agreemet on that point, it’s the entitlement I guess that annoys me. People so often complain about the lack of female partners but it makes sense to me.
