MM, would you able to get a teaching gig in Columbia maybe? Don’t you go to school for free if you teach in the University? How bout doing graduate degree in CUNY Graduate Center? I know if you’re accepted you get to go to school for free while you teach and they give you a stipend for taht.
Gem, I’m in my 50’s and toying with the idea of going to grad school at Columbia. The only reason they don’t have my application is money. It would be next to impossible to work and go to school full time, and I don’t want to owe another billion dollars after graduation. I also don’t think it would necessarily lead to a lucrative job, it would just make me happy to have a Master’s in a field I care about.
I’m in the process of reinventing myself for about the 3rd or 4th time. I’ve loved most of what I’ve pursued my adult life, but haven’t been able to really turn that love into decent dollars. Sorry to fixate on money, but as I get older, I’m starting to really worry about it. I don’t want to be one of those people who can’t afford to retire, and ends up sharing cat food with the kitties.
Wow – thanks to all, I didn’t know that about NP’s vs. PA’s
it’s something I have been looking into, however just nervous about starting from scratch with schooling!

“I need a rich hubby who can float me”
Stop there. Unless he wants to float me in the pool at our country place or in the Zuma soaking tub in our en suite bath.
