>>b’stoner is way too stressful today.
It has been made more stressful because of the bailing out of wall street. We still have ordinary working families not able to afford homes to raise a family while TARP banks are handing out record bonuses with tax payers’ money. Just the other day, expert complained about the prices of homes in nieghborhoods she is looking into not coming down. GUESS WHY?? the sellers hear and see that record bonuses are getting handed to the most undeserving and they are not going to lower their asking prices.

I agree with ET. That said- it is a fascinating discussion and I have to side with blowfish and ENY.
My family is immigrant too. I grew up grateful to be here and taught that others might not be a fortunate as I am. I think if you scratch the surface of most Americans you’ll find we do know that it is a privilege to live here. Not to say we don’t have problems but there is real poverty in this country and not everyone has the resources, resilience or tools to be successful. Despite the streets are paved with gold idea, for many it didn’t matter how good or how educated you were, if you were the wrong skin color, had the wrong accent or believed in the wrong religion, you could not get ahead with the same ease as others. This country’s history is full of the truth of that statement.
The worst thing we ever did in this country was slavery. It undercut everything we were and its consequences have been far reaching and handed down over generations. Look at the Arab world- hatreds are handed down over hundreds of years and thousands of generations. Look at us Jews- we never took Abraham to task for sending Hagar into the desert. There are Christians today who still blame Jews for the killing of Christ. It is a fallacy to think a few years make a difference when psychological change is needed. But when will it be done?
Hey Dave, why don’t you just go back to your lord and master’s site where you can talk about who you’re going to sleep with tonight to your heart’s content?
