Arkady- very true- When I do stuffed cabbage it’s in the traditional Armenian way, not the kind everyone’s used to, it’s got toasted pignoli nuts, currants and some nutmeg in it (I put much less than what they say to do).
Not everyone likes it b/c it’s not what they’re palate is expecting.
“I’ve bought wine from the Costco liquor store a couple times because the prices seem to cheap, but their storage must suck, because the wine always seems to taste flat.”
I’ve not experienced that. Maybe it’s a seasonal thing as well? Summer- not so good, Winter- better?
Thanks THL, I haven’t done the cabbage yet. I assumed it was the same stuffing. I didn’t get the recipe from Mom yet for cabbage (AND I won’t get it over the phone!)
I’m going to try cooking the rice with stock and adding some of your spices next time.
Thanks a lot.
CGar, I got the recipe from my mom, and I love her stuffed stuff. But whenever she gives me a recipe over the phone, she always leaves out something or two. I’ve learned it’s best to watch her.
A couple of weeks ago, I went over and learned a few dishes and as we were cooking I exclaimed “you never told me I had to add this”, “yes, I did”, “No, you didn’t” and back and forth.
I cook the rice about half way so it’s still got bite.
For one cup of rice I will use a standard soup can size can of college inn broth. If I’m using broth I’ve made or from one of those pour boxes I’ll measure out to the size of a standard can.
It’s just enough to not cook the rice all the way but it’ll add flavor to it.
THL – The CC on 3rd Av. has mainly Lexus & so on in the parking lot.
Turks, Greeks & Cypriots all do stuffed things differently – some has that cinnamon/clove thing – I don’t care for it either.
Well, CarrolGardened, next time you go to Heights Chauteau, makes sure to pick up a bottle of Riazul Tequila, preferably the Anejo (yes, I am still pimping my friends tequila company when the opportunity arises).

BD – No apology needed. I’ve had better luck than you – I usually buy cases so maybe the turnover is faster.

Email your recipe to me.
BTW – Arkady, I wrote my Costco diss without seeing your Costco recommendation, so please don’t see it as a dismissal of your recommendation.
Disclosure – I am actually a Costco fanatic. For all you bakers, the Vanilla is quite a deal.

ExText- I was saying what I do for stuffed peppers and zucchini. Cabbage is a whole ‘nother ball game. Different flavor profiles.
