Hey everyone.
Snappy, that story got me all verklempt!
The flower- I’ve used the Martha Stewart method and it really works. It’s basically between waxed paper inside a heavy book and it’ll take 10 days or so. My mom used to place them in our 8″ thick humongous family bible:
I repeat my assertion that the Korean boycott was the worst racial incident in the recent history of this city. I am well-aware of other incidents (such as Bensonhurst, Howard Beach, Crown Heights, etc) in which the body count was higher. However, in those other incidents, NO ONE from the city government or other positions of responsibility supported the ugly, prejuidiced POV. People spoke out against what happened, and the perpetrators were brought to justice.
In the case of the Korean boycott, the ugly racially-motivated death threats against that Korean grocer were openly stated, on TV. I saw it with my own eyes, and the reason for their death threat was openly stated: “They don’t look like us”. The reaction from City Hall? Nothing, for days and days..
A month or more??? Yikes! I’m an instant gratification kinda girl! What would happen to the rose if I just went ahead and stuck it in a shadow box today? Would it just rot?
I’m hopefully done with TWC for the time being. The problem seems to have been that instead of TRANSFERRING my account when I moved, they closed my old account and opened a new, unrelated one, which resulted in losing the e-mail address I’d been using for most of this millennium.
THEY did not figure this out.
I had a hunch this is what some idiot did and when I finally got someone to listen to me and check what happened, they confirmed it was the problem.
I’m really hating them right now.
Took 3 installation trips and 6 phone calls before they could find understand I lived in Park Slope not Williamsburg.
Then it took 8 phone calls to get my e-mail address back, and for my trouble I was offered: (1) one month free HBO, (2) 3 months free Showtime/TMC, and (3) waiver of installation fees.
The one month free HBO lasted 4 days. Based on this, I expect Showtime/TMC to last another 8 days.
I’m also expecting to see additional charges on my bill for multiple installation visits and phone tech support (plus charges for 1 month of HBO and 3 months of Showtime/TMC).
The local cable monopolies really really need to be broken up.
