  1. CarGar, what about those lights in the middle of the block, like on 3rd Ave in the 50’s. They were supposed to stop jaywalking by making the crossing midblock, therefore safer for pedestrians, but instead, people crawl over the gating, and cross at the curb anyway. I used to drive our company car in that area, back in the 9-5 days, and that intersection was a mess.

  2. i think the thing with giuliani is that he tried to attack the cause of problems rather than dealing with the aftereffects. i think it’s more effective in the long run but often less politically palatable. honestly even though i jaywalk, i highly recommend if people cross against the light, at least do it at the crosswalk. having driven and biked in the city i have to say that people really don’t see you until the last second and it may be difficult or too late to react. and you will end up in more pain than the person in the car. also to the stroller people, please don’t jaywalk with strollers. pet peeve. agh!

  3. MM, I know, and there are usually cops standing idly by when I (along with a dozen others) jaywalk by Grand Central every day, but it annoyed me that he tried, and threatened to issue tickets, and I still don’t like the barricades on 6th Avenue.

  4. “This friend also does undercover work where buys illegal cigarettes from bodegas.”

Oh…I get it. He’s a professional snitch. It’s a living, I guess. I’ll have to warn my bodega guy to keep his eyes open.

  5. Ditto,
I am on Silver’s side, and against Bloomberg, on congestion pricing (i.e. against it). Very glad it got put off, even if it was rather underhanded. Just another stealth tax.
Term limits themselves aren’t the issue in my mind, as much as the way in which they were overturned.
