I think you both fundamentally agree on the complacency issue. Whether laziness is or is not an approprite adjective as well is applicable to some, many but not all.
m4l- There used to be much more of that in this country- the whole pull yourself up by your own bootstraps thing. I’m first generation and I was raised to believe in hard work and doing for yourself. Amazing to be told by an immigrant to go on welfare. After he rants about that very thing.
I’m fine with nationalized healthcare here, and I’ll help pay for it. And as my parents back home age, they get sick and their income dwindles, I thank God whom I don’t believe in that they live in a country with excellent nationalized healthcare.

Legion- I like to think you’re right re having a shot at making something of your life. I worry too that this country is more about mediocrity than achievement and I also wonder if its n=just that we are in that part of the historical cycle. We’ve been so wealthy for so long, who knows.
