  1. DH, ha ha ha but it’s not even that. Buying something under market price with the hopes of kicking out the rent stabilized tenants to rent at market prices AND thinking you’re actually going to succeed. Just plain stupid.

On the other note, imagine the same scenario but you’re having “alone” time with your significant other after a nice bottle of wine and you have to go dig through the clogged toilet at 3a.m.

  2. “I am a little older than her and she is just an idiot. DH is younger and he wouldn’t take on something like that ever! lol.”

Seriously – why in the f*ck would a 26 year old wanna be a landlord? The last thing I want when I’m smoking a dutch and watching Weeds is someone knocking on my door because their toilet is clogged. B*tch please.

  3. I agree with Gemini.

It’s comforting to set-up the Republicans and right-wingers as the bogeymen in this health-care debate, but that ignores the following:

-the Democrats have bullet-proof majorities in BOTH houses of congress, and they control the presidency. They could pass health-care legislation TOMORROW if they wanted, by a filibuster-proof majority. Either they do not have the courage of their convictions, or they realize that they have not thought the matter through.

-they have done a poor job of presenting this to the folks, and it has backfired on them.

-the Democrats are in a self-destruction mode. How so? Rather than taking a breather, taking stock and rethinking their strategy(as Gemini suggested)they are now going beyond the usual bogeymen and are now eating their own, namely, the Blue Dog Democrats. It is beyond stupidity to label fellow members of your own party “shills for the drug industry” as has been done a number of times in the past week.

  4. Benson, I think she is just naive. Don’t think it has something to do with being in this city for a specific period of time. People jump into these investments all over the country thinking they’ll move rent stabilized tenants out and move in them or rent out the properties. If it was that simple, the current owners would figure out the way to finagle the stabilized tenants out a long time ago (including transferring the deed to a family member who doesn’t have a property to their name and have them force the tenant(s)) out. All of it has been tried and failed. That’s why the landlord/tenant rent stabilized laws are in place and judges can smell fishy tactics from miles away.

The sad part is that some lawyer will take on the case to squeeze the money out of her and her partner because a lot are desperate now and will promise all kinds of things. At the end, they are more likely to lose than not.
