Reprinted in full, here’s an item from Brooklyn 11211 this morning: “On Tuesday, the Executive Committee of CB1 Brooklyn voted unanimously to institute a moratorium on new liquor licenses in Williamsburg, Greenpoint and the rest of North Brooklyn. The vote was a response to what the leaders of CB1 see as an over saturation of liquor licenses in the area. The Board’s Public Safety Committee, which reviews liquor license applications, met last night to discuss the issue, and left with more questions than answers. The Committee did not vote on a moratorium, but the issue is sure to come at next Tuesday’s full board meeting.” Whoa! Will be interesting to find out what the full board has to say about this.

I hope that’s the case. We can definitely use the options. I keep hoping to see the old VoxPop space rented out, and have another restaurant there. Nothing too precious. I’d love a decent diner for example.

  2. Bah. I always liked the old ‘tavern culture’ of a little local bar on every corner (ie old chicago/the midwest in general). It meant your crowd was more local, better sense of community, and you didn’t get stuck going to the hipster bar if you didn’t want to.

[Of course, I’m also grouchy because my bartender at my bar is leaving tonight after 10 years. Sigh. It was a great community, but he really was the one holding it together. The other old regulars and I are sort of wondering wtf we’re going to do now.

But in the meantime, tonight’s a private regulars party, which is going to totally destroy me for work tomorrow. Wish me luck.]

  3. Yeah, 1000 different wheat beers. Not one of them tasting any different from the other. Makes you nothing more than a poser.

those 1000 different kinds of beers are just variations of sticker designs from “graphic designers”.
