Reprinted in full, here’s an item from Brooklyn 11211 this morning: “On Tuesday, the Executive Committee of CB1 Brooklyn voted unanimously to institute a moratorium on new liquor licenses in Williamsburg, Greenpoint and the rest of North Brooklyn. The vote was a response to what the leaders of CB1 see as an over saturation of liquor licenses in the area. The Board’s Public Safety Committee, which reviews liquor license applications, met last night to discuss the issue, and left with more questions than answers. The Committee did not vote on a moratorium, but the issue is sure to come at next Tuesday’s full board meeting.” Whoa! Will be interesting to find out what the full board has to say about this.

  1. “i can identify in a blind taste test any of the major brand malt liquors”

Please tell me you [at least] drink High Gravity malts.
There’s no reason to drink 4% abv malts, like Colt 45.

  2. “I’m really not a fan of most american micros… they seem to go overboard in one direction or another trying to carve out their own style and lose balance.”

Don’t kill me Brooklyn, but Sixpoints is a great example of this terrible truth.

  3. “there are more characteristics that distinguish beers from each other than wines (so i hear)”
I know many people who are working on the research! Myself included–I love trying beers I’ve never heard about before. If I wanted something that always tastes exactly the same every time I’d order a vodka & soda.

  4. I can’t be sure until I look at this picture drunk (state dependent memory being what it is), but this is brooklyn ale house, no? makes perfect sense to me for a bar 3 blocks from brooklyn brewery to have 4 taps from a neighborhood producer. that said, I’m really not a fan of most american micros… they seem to go overboard in one direction or another trying to carve out their own style and lose balance. sweet ones are the worst offenders.

I don’t think I’ve ever two beers that taste the same. I think you smoke too much Rob. Do you think all wines taste the same too?

lol, you might be right. and yeah all wines kinda do taste the same to me too. however, i can identify in a blind taste test any of the major brand malt liquors. what i was saying tho was that most of those designer label beers really DO all kinda taste the same…
