Reprinted in full, here’s an item from Brooklyn 11211 this morning: “On Tuesday, the Executive Committee of CB1 Brooklyn voted unanimously to institute a moratorium on new liquor licenses in Williamsburg, Greenpoint and the rest of North Brooklyn. The vote was a response to what the leaders of CB1 see as an over saturation of liquor licenses in the area. The Board’s Public Safety Committee, which reviews liquor license applications, met last night to discuss the issue, and left with more questions than answers. The Committee did not vote on a moratorium, but the issue is sure to come at next Tuesday’s full board meeting.” Whoa! Will be interesting to find out what the full board has to say about this.

  1. I don’t get liquor licenses… There is a bar on Cortelyou Road, near the subway station. They were suddenly closed up and the story that is circulating is that the liquor license was somehow attached to the bartender — they pissed him off, he left, the bar closed.

    Can this be true?

  2. same thing happened in the east village years ago
one of the first thing Guiliani (who i hate) did in west village was to crack down on street drinking cause makes so much late night noise

people live in these neighborhoods and are sick of the 3 day frat party central Willie has become

they won’t be able to stop all licenses, and wine/beer different than full liquor

  3. A moratorium is a wrong, typically bureaucratic sledge hammer approach to a problem. And this is from someone who agrees there are too many bars. You can’t get a license to serve wine in your restaurant, that is just stupid.

The problem is largely block specific and should be dealt accordingly with punishment for the few establishments that cause problems for neighbors.

  4. That photo of that tap shows exactly what’s wrong with most places nowadays…al douchebag hipster beers and nothing really great like a Harp, Guinness, Boddington’s, Pilsner Urquell or Hinano (guess).
