After WWII, a corner of Italy east of Trieste was made a part of Yugoslavia -Italy was on the losing side of the war. Now there is no Yugoslavia, I think that chunk of geography is now part of Slovenia but I’m not sure.
They call them polpette.
polpette?
Minard;
I repeat: there is no Italian word (or phrase) for the concept of “meatball”. As I write this I am looking at my Penguin Cambridge Italian dictionary, and re-confirmed this point. The fact that there is no word or phrase for this item ought to say something.
Yes, ditto, I believe she is. And trieste has a very weird history and is basically an amalgam of parts of E Europe and Austria as well.
EUROTRASH. But I do love Lydia. I make her duck guazzetta (sp?) on pappardelle and a number of other dishes
I’ve just asked the Star Trek Computer (ie Wikipedia) and she told me Lydia was born in Yugoslavia, which was Italy a few days before, and it wasn’t her fault but the Italian’s fault who backed a loser in WWII.
Isn’t Lydia actually Yugoslavian or something bonkers?
Arkady, that’s because Ted Koppel was born in Lancashire, England. Maybe you’re thinking of Bernie Koppel (he was born in Brooklyn, by the way).
Did anyone go to Open House New York this weekend?
