  1. “I’ve just updated my Word file in my desktop folder Biff, thanks for the tip.”

Ditto, good thinking. And benson can update his Work file to add Bernie Koppel to his list of famous Brooklynites.

Arkady, maybe you were thinking of Peter Jennnings (or John Roberts), who are both Canadian born anchormen.

  2. Benosn, you’re right – Columbus was a great man in many respects. To be able to accomplish what he did in terms of navigation and discovery took incredible courage, will, dedication, skill and daring. As you also say, the slave trade certainly did not begin with Columbus and has continued generations after his death. However I recall my grade school years when we learned that Columbus “discovered the New World” and heard nothing about the full impact of his expeditions. It’s a good thing that now all sides of his story can be “explored,” so to speak.

  3. In Italy, polpette and polpettoni, meatballs and meatloaf, are in many ways a holdover from an earlier time, when refrigeration was not as dependable as it is today and trimmings and leftover meats had to be dealt with quickly or they would spoil. Meatballs, in particular, are true home cooking of the sort you are unlikely to encounter in any but the most mom-and-pop type trattorias that cater to a local clientele. Nor are you likely to be served them if you are invited to someone’s house, unless you are considered family.
