“Let’s discuss Rice A Roni now.”
Who’s he?
“After WWII, a corner of Italy east of Trieste was made a part of Yugoslavia -Italy was on the losing side of the war.”
I visited Trieste a few times as a travel writer – it’s a great city that pretty much lives in Venice’s shadow. A writer friend and I were walking along the harbor late one evening, and began talking to the crews of yachtsmen moored at the pier in preparation for a big yacht race that would begin at dawn. Being a New Yorker, I asked a guy on one of the boats, “So, are you guys going to win this thing?” He said, “We have nothing to lose.”
i thought italian polpette were made with pork and veal, which were more common in italy. though i find it funny that the biggest controversy today is the origin on the meatball. what about italian wedding soup? aren’t those considered meatballs? don’t tell me that’s fake too. i love that soup!!!
Let’s discuss Rice A Roni now.
“Frankly I don’t care Dave.”
THL, Rhett Butler has got nothing on you!
classic commercial
in the same vein as Lucille Ball’s classic “vita-meata-vegamin” routine.
Love it.
Good grief, folks are trying to tell me about my own people’s history!!
As I mentioned above, beef was an extremely rare commodity in modern Southern Italy up until 30 years ago, due to the general poverty and poor agricultural conditions. When my dad travelled to his family’s town (Boscotrecase) about 35 years ago, beef was still not a staple. The best they could do was veal.
The concept of “spaghetti and meatballs” is an Italian-America invention.
B-E-N-S-O-N. Sorry about that.
