Closing Bell: McDonald's a Blight on Park Slope?
Bees to honey! Or McNuggets. Or…anyhow, when we read the Brooklynian headline “Hideous New Eyesore on 9th Street,” we were so there. Turns out the eyesore in question is a big yellow awning for the recently renovated McDonald’s between 4th and 5th avenues, and Brooklynian folks are calling it “mindblowingly ugly” and “g-d awful.” (Sure…

Turns out the eyesore in question is a big yellow awning for the recently renovated McDonald’s between 4th and 5th avenues, and Brooklynian folks are calling it “mindblowingly ugly” and “g-d awful.” (Sure is!) The larger question, however, surfaces toward the end of the thread: Is McD’s better or worse for the neighborhood than the porn theater it replaced? Jury’s out.

Here’s the 76th precinct’s stats which covers carroll gardens and cobble hill. It’s hard to base on shear numbers because of the different population of cg and Ps, but PS’s rate is trending much better and CG’s rate is up so far vs last year while ps’s is significantly down. Of course, it’s only 1.5 months in. Needless to say both neighborhoods are safe so whoever started this babyish nitpicking (it’s like my dad can beat your dad), please refrain.
As McD’s go, that place is an architectural gem. An excellent renovation. One hopes the place will appear less frequently in the police blotter.
For all you McD haters I think the renovation is a vast improvement over the indoor playground that was there before. 52 plazma tv screen great to watch MSNBC on while I eat my two apple pies for a dollar. Many seniors from across the way drink coffee there and catch up on how all the new young people in the neighborhood have nothing better to do with there lives than critique awnings.
whats so safe about carrol gardens? The mommies there are always complaining about the hooliganism in the parks and smith street was and still is a great place to get purse snatched, mugged or beaten down
Who living in NYC eats this shit. Mcdonalds is for when you’re driving on the highway.
here’s the stats for the 78th Precinct which is responsible for PS. Looks pretty impressive to me. Crime is going down there faster than hillary’s poll ratings.

That McDonalds has been there for well over twenty years, which is probably a little longer than the people who are hating on it.
care to show us the stats, polemicist?
also keeping in mind that cg is about 1/10th the size of park slope?
please, because everything else you say here is so wise and factual, i’m really curious….
