Bees to honey! Or McNuggets. Or…anyhow, when we read the Brooklynian headline “Hideous New Eyesore on 9th Street,” we were so there. Turns out the eyesore in question is a big yellow awning for the recently renovated McDonald’s between 4th and 5th avenues, and Brooklynian folks are calling it “mindblowingly ugly” and “g-d awful.” (Sure is!) The larger question, however, surfaces toward the end of the thread: Is McD’s better or worse for the neighborhood than the porn theater it replaced? Jury’s out.

  1. It’s just rank snobbery to think there is anything wrong with a McDonald’s in that location. Besides, they’ve done up the inside very handsomely. Anyway, better a McDonald’s than a Starbucks.

  2. I agree. Why is god’s name would someone choose CG over PS…NO PARK, INFERIOR SCHOOLS and ONE CRAPPY F TRAIN.

5th Avenue has ALL the same stores as Smith (and then some!), it has 2 or 3 above average schools and one of the most beautiful parks around.

Oh and the F, 2/3 and Q trains.

Given that both are about the same price, it seems rather foolish to choose CG over PS to me.

Unless you were born into the mob or married your sister.

  3. 4:13 spends his/her days counting reasons why PS shouldn’t be move to, and endlessly pondering the question of whether the decision not to move there was indeed correct.
