Bees to honey! Or McNuggets. Or…anyhow, when we read the Brooklynian headline “Hideous New Eyesore on 9th Street,” we were so there. Turns out the eyesore in question is a big yellow awning for the recently renovated McDonald’s between 4th and 5th avenues, and Brooklynian folks are calling it “mindblowingly ugly” and “g-d awful.” (Sure is!) The larger question, however, surfaces toward the end of the thread: Is McD’s better or worse for the neighborhood than the porn theater it replaced? Jury’s out.

  1. Where is “Ruby on the Rag” complaining about how down market McD’s is? I am sure she was there protesting and asking that the store be replaced with some obnoxious, overpriced and pretentious restaurant.

  2. when looking for a home, most people care more about the park, the more beautiful homes, the better schools and the lower crime, 5:57.

the people are an afterthought. no one goes and talks to neighbors before they buy a house.

i personally think you are wrong and think cg has the exact same people as park slope basically, but when deciding on a neighborhood it all comes down to the house and the services.

  3. they recently totally gut renovated it and updated the facade, hal. i don’t eat there, but i would imagine that most of the clientele is local. maybe a few people from the hospital haul their ass down there for lunch, maybe…

  4. I’m a big McD hater (read:EcoVeg). But they have been around longer than I (42 years in NYC) and people DO eat there. Hell, even I frequented McD and Burger King before I started to eat right!
