Broker Marketing 101

How do we do it? Fifteen years of experience…a good feel for the market…the best technical support in the industry.
And I still don’t see any bubble bursting! Do you?
Don’t let anyone tell you it’s getting harder to get top dollar.
ISTB,”yet 99.99% of the people who enter this business fail at it. Has a hirer failure rate then any other industry.”
You seem to be making the same arguement as most of the broker bashers on this forum. Basically your saying that for every 1000 brokers, only ONE has the ‘right stuff’. The other 999 brokers are useless.
“How many of you bought a property in 1999 or 2001.. and at the time you worried.. maybe the market is crashing.. and you’re real estate agent pushed you to make the decision that was the right decision and you bought. Did they make the right decision for you?”
With hindsight being 20/20, you seem to be proud to have pushed buyers into homes in ’01. Thats all good since those buyers have made $$. However, will you feel the same 3 or 4 years from now for pushing buyers into home in ’06?
Isaac Newton once said, “If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” I believe realtors believe themselves so valuable because they are standing in a crowd of midgets.
Corcoran does co-broke.
They do not however, list with the MLS often enough. It means other brokers have to dig through their website to find listings.
Well put ISTB.
Anonymous April 28th.. well said.
It is very easy to get your real estate license and as a result many people go get it; probably because there is such a gross misunderstanding from the public that this is an easy business and a great way to make lots of money. Since it is an unpaid job it is very easy to get hired. Yet 99.99% of the people who enter this business fail at it. Has a hirer failure rate then any other industry.
The people who succeed at this are in fact impressive talented people.
All day long real estate agents get buyers to pay market value because it is a good decision for their future and we get sellers to list at or accept offers at market value.. because that is a good decision for them… because we know that the longer you sit on the market.. the less likely you are to get market value and because we know that the longer you sit on the fence the more expensive real estate will get.
How many of you bought a property in 1999 or 2001.. and at the time you worried.. maybe the market is crashing.. and you’re real estate agent pushed you to make the decision that was the right decision and you bought. Did they make the right decision for you?
Actually if it was a good agent you don’t even know that they made the decision for you. You think you did.
And when we get sellers to list at the right prices.. the market prices.. they don’t know we got them to the point of making a smart decision.. they think they did.
I have just come to accept that the public has no idea what we do because if we do it right.. we give you.. the clients.. all the credit. And you know.. there’s not a lot of people out there who can do it.
In light of all this broker discussion, it is interesting to note that the seller of Wednesday’s house of the day, 15 Lefferts, has already taken down his web site, meaning that he has a deal. FSBO and sold in one week. Not bad, huh?
I repeat: Why on earth is an entire blog post being devoted to a Corcoran Agent??? Is there nothing else to talk about?
I am a broker. I compete with Jim Cornell. Leave the guy alone. 99.9% of what a real estate agent does is completely misunderstood. I also must say it’s equally ridiculous that Corcoran agents are finding the time to go on this silly website and trumpet their abilities over their competition. I don’t expect the general public to completely understand how much hard work it is to do what we do, but let’s not use this forum as a place to bash one another or trumpet our firm’s abilities. Maybe the brokers for the major REBNY firms should call one another and agree that this is unseemly or something?? Just makes us all look pretty silly. And I have to congratulate brownstoner on bashing some guy who at least is open with the public about who he is. Maybe we should take the time to figure out who you are and we can all critique you the same way?? Because clearly you are happy having us bash one broker who is just out there trying to drum up business by standing up for what he does when you won’t even stand up for what you are doing publicly.
I don’t know this guy in particular, but I can say that Corcoran underpriced one friend’s apartment by about 80K and never co-listed another friend’s property, even though they’d claimed they had. She had 3 open houses, no nibbles with them; she re-listed with another agency at a higher price and had a bidding war. So much for ‘top dollar’ with Corcoran.
