For Sale: Vintage Farm Sink

Selling this classic, vintage farm style sink.

Has 2 sections of different depths each with own drain.
The exterior is in really good shape- a few scuffs or nicks, but overall a nice bright white exterior- this is not one of those old ones that needs to be reglazed or anything. It was stored in basement so needs to be cosmetically cleaned up a bit- any discoloration in photo is just surface dust/dirt.

Dimensions are 41″ wide, 24.75″ front to back, and 8″ deep on one side and 13″ deep in the other basin.

This is a beautiful sink- it is solid cast iron underneath that pretty white exterior so it is heavy.
But here’s the best part— if you come by and like it, I’ll even deliver it to your curb for free. Or you can always swing by and grab it yourself- it’s on ground floor with no stairs and you can back your car up inches from it. Asking $250 OBO. Email abccity at gmail . com if interested or for more photos.

How Much to Move Ceiling Fixture?

Any idea how much it should cost to have an electrician move a ceiling light fixture a couple feet over? Not much slack in line so it would need junction box I think.

Rusting Post, Need to Paint It?

I made a mistake and put up the new posts to my driveway gate without painting it. So now the side of the steel post which is right next to the building is impossible to paint- the gap between the post and the wall is as little as a 1/8 inch in some spots. I can see after only a few months, there is rust building up in the crack there.

Any advice on how to get some paint on it to protect it from rusting?
Also, how bad is this to have bare metal unprotected? It’s 1/4 inch thick steel tube. Is it possible that after many years this could eventually compromise the metal post altogether? Thanks for any advice.

Oh and FYI- this was bought straight from the metal place so it wasn’t even primed, just bought as pure steel tube.

Hanging My Own Pocket Door

I’m trying to build in a pocket door where there was none. I know Lowe’s has stuff, but I’m putting in an old solid brownstone door which is fairly heavy and I don’t totally trust their stuff will hold up. Any idea where I could find a more heavy duty upper rolling track mechanism? I need it this weekend so online is out.
Thanks for any advice!

Any Use for Old Wood Lath Strips? Firewood?

I took down some plaster and lath and now have 4 bags of just individual lath wood strips, no plaster on them. Any use for it? Anyone want it? My Dad has been taking it to use as firewood, but he has all he can handle. If interested, let me know, hoping for a chance to reuse/repurpose it– otherwise, to the curb it goes.

Cool, vintage library card catalogs for sale

“Clean out the basement” week continues with these cool, vintage library card catalogs.
We bought a whole bunch of them for our place and only ended up incorporating a few into our decor.

Really nice warm wood color with funky pulls– all in all, really unique pieces with some character to them. Plus, really nice solid wood craftsmanship.

We used them in the office for sorting our office supplies, but have seen them used for kitchen utensil, craft supplies, tool organizer, etc. Really handy little drawers.

They come in 15 drawer sections (5 drawers across by 3 drawers tall= 15 drawers total). As you can see in photo, they are meant to be stacked and I do have a few of them for sale. Since they were meant to be stacked, sides and top are unfinished, but could be finished quite easily to match front color.

Each 15 drawer section is 32.5″ wide, 17″ deep and 13″ tall.

But here’s the best part— if you come by and like it, I’ll even deliver it to your curb for free. Or you can always swing by and grab it yourself- it’s on the ground floor with no stairs and you can back your car up inches from it. Asking $250 OBO for each 15 drawer section (5 drawers wide by 3 drawers tall). Email if interested.

Moving a thermostat or going wireless?

I need to move the sensor on my thermostat to a different location since its current location is really warm and the heats kicks off too quickly. Does it make more sense to go for a wireless thermostat for around $200 or just have the wiring extended (40 feet or so) to the place I want the thermostat to be? Anyone have experience with the wireless thermostats where the temperature sensor is located separate from the main panel? Advice appreciated!

Taking the Plunge(r)…

Anyone know where I can get a heavy-duty (no pun intended…) plunger?

I don’t know if its the pipes in my building or what, but both my apt and tenants’ seem to have toilets that clog easily and sinks that drain slow– my dollar store plunger isn’t cutting it anymore. Perhaps it a sign of a bigger issue, but right now I only have a budget for a serious plunger.

Tell me where you get a real-deal, master plumber-approved plunger in the PS/Gowanus/Brooklyn area- thanks for your replies!

Steam Radiator Valve Questions

I’ve got a steam heat system with radiators for my 3-family building.

The hallway radiator right by the front hall entrance just seems like a total waste of energy- can I just turn the valve off?

Is there any downside to turning one radiator off in a system like this?

I also have a bedroom which gets too hot- can I just turn the valve half way off to reduce the amount of heat coming from that radiator?

I know ideally changing the vent size might be better, but are the above acceptable solutions too?

Please advise- thanks!
