Heating

Has anyone installed Warmboard (or other radiant floors) as the only heat source in a building with 3 or more units? I’m curious to know how you decided to heat the common hallway and vestibules. Is it simpler to install a radiator in the vestibule and connect it to common electric? Or does it make more sense to extend the Warmboard zoning into the common hallway of each floor, since the common space is more or less equally distributed throughout the building? Is there a HPD or MDL rule that would eliminate the latter option?

I am looking to install radiant heating in a small bathroom approx. 8’x4′.
Does anyone know a particular company I should look into.
For the moment I have two quotes from Nuheat and Warmfloor. One is 300$ less than the other.
Any recommendations?

We are renovating, and have a brand new radiator that came with the condo (we are only replacing it because we want a different size). It’s a bit dirty, but otherwise in perfect shape. It’s white, box-shaped, standard-issue Brooklyn radiator. Not sure the make/model. I assume it’s cast iron, as it’s very heavy. We are on the 4th floor of a walk-up, but two guys could carry it down easily. May require some additional pieces to install (not my area of expertise). 22.5″ x 20″ x 5″ If you leave your email address, I will send pictures.

$100 or best offer – pick it up whenever! Leave a comment if you are interested – Thanks!

In my 3 story brownstone I’m replacing the forced air heating unit.

I’d appreciate any thoughts or recommendations regarding efficient forced air heating units.

we’re putting in a hot water heating system in a townhouse. we’re choosing between runtal radiators, veha radiators and slant fin baseboard units. aside from the obvious visual differences, are there any advantages (heat quality, energy efficiency, maintenance and service for example) to spending 10 fold on the high end runtals? any opinions on the 3 options welcome…

thanks!

Can anyone give some suggestions about a good natural gas boiler for a three story home? Our oil burning one is scary and needs to go! Advice on local gas providers, related issues, etc appreciated.

Help! I’m freaking out! I’m on the board of a 10 unit rowhouse co-op and my super/co-board member just informed me that our boiler is shot and we need a new one. This information was given to her by our boiler maintenance company. The super is perfectly happy to hand over money to this company and do whatever they tell us to do, but i think for something that’s such a large investment, we should get multiple bids or at least an engineer’s report. I’ve been reading about NYSERTA and incentives for going green. My head is spinning! What do i do first? Thanks!

Hello,

We are thinking about installing a Myson Whispa lll or Beacon/Morris kickspace hydronic (hot water) heater in our kitchen (12 x 11), as part of our renovation.

Is anyone familiar with this type of product and what are the pluses and minuses? How loud is the fan and over time does the fan become louder?

We are removing the cast iron radiator in our kitchen (to free up some wall space), but we are not interested in installing radiant floor heat.
Our plumber suggested this option, because it is installed under the base cabinet and we would be able to pick up the water line from the old radiator location.
Curious to hear your thoughts.

Thank you very much

I need to move the sensor on my thermostat to a different location since its current location is really warm and the heats kicks off too quickly. Does it make more sense to go for a wireless thermostat for around $200 or just have the wiring extended (40 feet or so) to the place I want the thermostat to be? Anyone have experience with the wireless thermostats where the temperature sensor is located separate from the main panel? Advice appreciated!
