Doors

by

I have been looking at apartments for a June 1st move in. One building I was looking at did not have a steel door on the 4th floor. It’s a flimsy wood door. Are steel doors not required on smaller buildings? This building is only 4 stories tall.

The sliding screen door behind the glass door that separates our kitchen from our backyard needs to be replaced. The tracks are beaten on, so I’d replace them as well. Is there anyone in or around the Slope who does this kind of work or am I stuck buying the parts and doing it myself?

I’m trying to build in a pocket door where there was none. I know Lowe’s has stuff, but I’m putting in an old solid brownstone door which is fairly heavy and I don’t totally trust their stuff will hold up. Any idea where I could find a more heavy duty upper rolling track mechanism? I need it this weekend so online is out.
Thanks for any advice!

Help! As can be seen in the attached picture, my door has separated itself from the top hinge. The door pictured is the door that leads into my apartment (no worries, this is the second door one would have to get through to get to me, so safety isn’t an issue and doesn’t make this an urgent matter.) This is a solid door and it has been hanging here just fine for many years. Is there a common reason that this happened? I’m considering replacing the door (I’m assuming it can’t be fixed) myself, but if this is something that is the result of improper hanging, I can ask my landlord to have a handyman come by. (I’d rather do it myself if possible and not bother the LL) Any ideas?

In case the picture doesn’t post here, you can see the pic on my Flickr page:

Hi
I have a steel door leading out to the yard and then a metal gate. The door swings inwards and is solid. I’d like to replace it with a door with a window at the top that (ideally) swings out. Is it possible to buy a door and put it into the existing frame? If so, where from? I seem to remember concrete being poured into the frame so I don’t want to replace that. It’s standard 32″ x 80″. Thanks for any help.

I would like to replace my ugly metal front entry door with a nice wooden door without a window. Does the door have to have a window in a 3 family brownstone? Why do most front doors have windows in park slope? In addition, I am going to install a new interior door in the foyer area. Does this need to be fire rated? Each unit has its own fire rated door leading to the unit. Any advice would be appreciated.
