Get a load of this $18,000-a-month rental listing at 2 Pierrepont Place in Brooklyn Heights! The entry way is stunning, but it’s like the apartment itself just couldn’t keep up. It’s not that we dislike the look of the apartment itself, but much of it is surprisingly bland and postwar looking given the building that it’s in. (This apartment is located in a former Building of the Day, and is labeled one of the most elegant pair of brownstone mansions remaining in NY by the AIA Guide.) Then again, we are talking about seven bedrooms and harbor views, which don’t come cheap. Think they’ve got a shot at renting it for this price?

Come on guys….go to Corcoran, put in rentals (example UWS or West Village) and you’ll realize a whole new world out there that boggles the mind.
Here’s a similar sized (although only 5 bedrooms) rental on 86th Street on the UWS.
Price: $27,000 a month.

There is a new building on 72nd and Broadway which will house a new Trader Joe’s opening in September. They started renting out the units about a month or two ago and the building is now over 50% leased. The 2 bedrooms start at $7,000 a month.
Sorry, babs, the DUMBO categorization was just a mistake on my part… an earlier draft of the apartment of the day was actually in dumbo and I forgot to change it. Fixing now. thanks!
OK, the inevitable quibble – why is this categorzed as “DUMBO”? This is Brooklyn Heights. Probably will be rented to a an expat government offical or corporate bigwig, who’s only here for a few years (with family in tow) and whose employer is footing all or most of the bill.
The mind boggles. Possibly a high-end re-do circa 1967?
This is probably what all those “loft” renovations inside brownstones will look like in twenty years. Perfectly nice if it were in a loft (or, above, in a modern high rise apartment building) but just ridiculous looking inside a brownstone.
OK, now that I got that out of the way, I’m curious about the oval foyer. It’s not typical for a brownstone. Anyone know anything about it?
We need a rich guarantor though! Booo
Maybe turn it into a “cooking co op” too. 🙁
Brokerbabble:
Fabulous, duplex with full harbor and city views. Six or Seven bedrooms, library, Family room, 5 Baths, with working fireplaces and private elevator.
…
The four pics (3 interior plus the entry posted above) do look pedestrian. But I look at it this way:
I’m pretty sure the person who is willing to spend $18K per month on rent has nothing in common with me. I would not expect our deductive reasoning or rational logic skills to be at all similar. If someone is ready to throw away $216,000 per year without receiving any equity stake, I really don’t care what it looks like. The price is absurd; that’s enough for me to just shrug and move on.
DH, I’ll sublet some rooms from you after you sign the lease
This could work well as a share. You could squeeze another two bedrooms in there.
