It’s not that we dislike the look of the apartment itself, but much of it is surprisingly bland and postwar looking given the building that it’s in. (This apartment is located in a former Building of the Day, and is labeled one of the most elegant pair of brownstone mansions remaining in NY by the AIA Guide.) Then again, we are talking about seven bedrooms and harbor views, which don’t come cheap. Think they’ve got a shot at renting it for this price?

Maybe the renters can install a TV and dining table in the foyer and enjoy that. It already has a couch/chaise. just instruct the cook to bring it downstairs.
Yes, that space with a view like that (which isn’t possible) in manhattan would be $30-40,000.
My point is that for the space, 18K isn’t really outrageous.
Or maybe I didn’t have a point.
Yea Dave, there’s A LOT going on in that living room!!
Although the actual apartment I prefer to this one here. This looks bland.
11217,
I am well aware that there are always rentals available in Manhattan for >$20K. What is your point?
11217, the pics of that rental you posted also show that people with money oftentimes have no taste.
BH, cost of ownership for this pad is probably a ton more than 18k/month and that’s after a boatload in down payment
“I’m pretty sure the person who is willing to spend $18K per month on rent has nothing in common with me. I would not expect our deductive reasoning or rational logic skills to be at all similar. If someone is ready to throw away $216,000 per year without receiving any equity stake, I really don’t care what it looks like. The price is absurd; that’s enough for me to just shrug and move on.”
This is pretty tame compared to some rentals out there. There’s a whole other market out there.
Mopar, since this was a mansion built for the Low family, one of the richest in Brooklyn, I’m sure every inch was made to their specifications, and has little to do with the classic brownstone layouts we know. Hence an oval foyer, which is very impressive, and would not look out of place in a free standing mansion of the period anywhere else in the country.
That said, if the foyer looks like this, the rest of the house must have been spectacular. Too bad it’s 90% gone. A marble fireplace and a bit of crown molding does not period detail make, in my opinion. Also, for that huge amount of money, 4 pictures are not acceptable, and would not be even a tease for anyone in that market, let alone us house porn addicts. Come on!
