This four-bedroom duplex rental at 395 Smith Street is an interesting one. On one hand, it’s only $3,995 a month for a Carroll Gardens address that’s just a block away from places like Frankies, Prime Meats, and Buttermilk Channel. But on the other hand, the apartment is on that lower stretch of Smith Street, right next to the train, and some of the bedrooms lack proper walls, which ain’t good. What’s your feeling?

  1. I actually looked at this hell hole with a friend when she was looking for a large rental last year. It was frightening and easily the most depressing space I have seen in a long time. The layout was bizarre, I seem to recall hobbit type closets, and we noted that there was really no practical way to arrange furniture in most of the rooms. The fact that it has remained unsold and unrented for over a year should tell you something. How on earth could it qualify as Rental of the Day? Come on Brownstoner. It’s overpriced by at least $3k a month.

  2. Ack, 11217, you’re only saying that because this particular dump is not in Park Slope.
Yes, I’m ribbing you; you deserve it because you aggravated Shillstoner who made the same point on Friday.
It’s a fine line between a frownstoner and a shill. In the case of this rental, I feel like I’m speaking for everyone: it’s a dumpy horror show, in a terrible building, in the worst location. Every word of the ad is a lie.
