Rental of the Day: 585 6th Avenue
This one-bedroom rental is located at 585 6th Avenue, which launched this summer as a new 27-unit residential building. The interior looks quite nice, but what caught our eye was the price tag: $4,200 a month for a one-bedroom, one-bathroom between 16th Street and Prospect. The square footage isn’t listed but we sure hope this…

The interior looks quite nice, but what caught our eye was the price tag: $4,200 a month for a one-bedroom, one-bathroom between 16th Street and Prospect. The square footage isn’t listed but we sure hope this place is big! Otherwise that’s a pretty big nut for the location. Update: Looks like there was a mistake in this particular listing. One bedrooms are $2600 and the two bedrooms are $3200, there are no $4,200 units. The links have been changed to reflect.

Maybe the people in the rental office who priced the apartments were also under the impression they were located in Manhattan?
Oh. Guess not.
This is silly. Wouldn’t the developers do better selling these units rather than renting them out for the same mortgage/rent equation?
Real estate isn’t exactly selling like hotcakes in that vicinity–of the 18 units at 226-228-230 16th Street, only 4 have closed, with 5 in contract and 9 still available.
And they’ve been on the market since January. Of 2009.
Across the street, 245 16th Street has managed to sell 4/6, though it had the advantage of being on the market since January 2008.
Obviously, this is not a hot neighborhood, so how they’re getting people to pay absurd rent to live there is a mystery.
And p.s. DH although I think your comment was just a teaser to get me riled up :)…
For SOME people, “doing stuff” means going to the park, going to the market and cooking dinner, having people over and entertaining, etc.
Not EVERYONE’S idea of “doing stuff” is waiting in line for for an hour at a totally overrated restaurant (see fatty cue, pies and thighs, Dumont Burger) and sitting around a bunch of 20 something aholes who can’t take the time to run some water over their bodies every once in a while.
“this part of the slope isn’t pretty”
A. It’s not the Slope
B. This is the prettiest part of the non-Slope, in my opinion. So green and filled with trees. Nothing like Williamsburg.
Glass walls to look at the shitty house across the street. What were the builders thinking. Looking at a park or a Meadow, yes, but ugly houses…NO !! you gotta be kidding,
also for renters that do not spend a dime on anything in the apartment, what type of window treatments do they do….
oh wait, i know……put curtains up and tie them in a knot !!
heh – big nut
sorry – this part of the slope isn’t pretty. might as well move to williamsburg and be alot closer to manhattan and stuff to do other than lot2
