Rental of the Day: 77 St. Marks Avenue
We’re not sure we can even call this rental at 77 St. Marks Avenue a studio since there’s a shared bathroom and only a kitchenette. (Property Shark has the building classified as a rooming house.) And because the listing doesn’t give square footage, we don’t even want to think about how small it might be….

And because the listing doesn’t give square footage, we don’t even want to think about how small it might be. But, hey, it’s in a brownstone on St. Mark’s Avenue right off Flatbush, it’s full of details with some personality, and the rent is in the triple digits: 900 bucks a month. Obviously this is going to appeal to a certain type of renter who doesn’t mind sacrificing space (or their own bathroom) for a prime Prospect Heights location on the cheap. Think it could be worth it?

a roommate type of situation in the hood cost about the same as this. but difference is you know who cleans the bathrooms :p.
im all for more SRO’s. i mean if they were cheap enough they can be enticing. but not 1000 dollars a month for an sro room and shared bathroom. i would probably wind up pooping in bags and peeing in bottles if i had to share with that many strangers… im sure that’s what lots of sro people do anyway. ew
*rob*
We used to think SROs like this were horrible places to end up in — back when New York had many thousands of them. But they provided working poor single people with affordable, stable homes. The current situation is so much worse for that demographic.
$900 seems way too much. Its a great location but you would never want to be home. And no pics of the shared bathroom – who cleans it?
My step-brother lived in SROs on the Upper West Side for years. The whole point is they’re cheap. $900/month is not cheap.
btw, he had a highly respected job, but it was in the arts. Do the math.
In a word, no!
Sacrificing space is one thing. Having to share a bath is something else entirely.
So. Very. Awful.
Once AY is built it will be worthless.
(Haven’t seen that posted in quite a while, so I thought I’d dust it off)
