Okay, we’ll admit this one-bedroom was chosen as Rental of the Day mostly because 233 Garfield is Park Slope’s pink brownstone, making this listing the opportunity to “Live in a legend,” as the broker puts it. The pictures of the interior are scarce and unimpressive and we don’t have any square footage info, but when this brownstone was HOTD we did report that it has “all of its architectural details in place” even if the interior was a little rough around the edges. What do you think of the $2,000-a-month rent?

  1. “Clearly the person that did it thinks they are sooo different and interesting, whereas it’s really not imaginative, just garish.”

Hey, that statement bothers me! Do you know these people personally? Are you jealous that you can’t appreciate anything slightly different?

I would DIE FOR that Hello Kitty house!!!!!!

  2. It’s fun. Pure and simple.

If you consider this an eyesore or get nauseous looking at it, you have lost the notion of fun and whimsy in your life.

Not everything has to be so damn rigid. What a bunch of drama queens.

  3. The owner, Mr. Henry, is, I hope, still very much alive. I haven’t seen him recently, but he’s a pretty frequent sight on Seventh Ave – usually impeccably dressed and carrying a (folded) umbrella used as a walking stick. Quite debonair, and looking very young for his age (92?).

That said, the apartment is overpriced and has been on the market a good long time. Not in great shape, either; Mr. Henry does not believe in dishwashers or W/Ds in rental apartments.

  4. I remember reading an article about this guy awhile ago. Apparently the wrong color paint arrived and he decided to go ahead and use it anyway. It wasn’t his original intention to have a pink brownstone.

  5. “wow, i charge less for a 2 br apartment in the North slope with a w/d.

    $2,000 seems high.”

is it nice? most of the 2,000 1 bedrooms i saw in the slope were dark and dingy.

  6. “I’d get nauseous every time I walked up the stoop, just having to look at the exterior.”

It’s that Pepto Bismol color that does it to you. The first time i saw it i thought it looked so ghetto.Just plain loud and gaudy.
