Rental of the Day: 233 Garfield Place
Okay, we’ll admit this one-bedroom was chosen as Rental of the Day mostly because 233 Garfield is Park Slope’s pink brownstone, making this listing the opportunity to “Live in a legend,” as the broker puts it. Okay, we’ll admit this one-bedroom was chosen as Rental of the Day mostly because 233 Garfield is Park Slope’s pink brownstone, making this listing the opportunity to “Live in a legend,” as the broker puts it. The pictures of the interior are scarce and unimpressive and we don’t have any square footage info, but when this brownstone was HOTD we did report that it has “all of its architectural details in place” even if the interior was a little rough around the edges. What do you think of the $2,000-a-month rent?

Helloooooo from vacation. Three days til the big day!!!
This house is a Brooklyn Institution and should stay Pink forever. If you hate it, you just don’t get what it’s all about and why people love it.
11217 hit it on the head. It’s a little bit a whimsy in a very serious world. Fun pure and simple.
Stay Pink Garfield House
It’s been painted like this for decades.
But someone the newbies think they can move to the neighborhood and decide what is and isn’t in good taste for the entire street or neighborhood.
Entitlement at its finest.
“Do you know these people personally? Are you jealous that you can’t appreciate anything slightly different?”
1) Don’t know them personally although I live fairly close and walk past it a lot.
2) Not jealous at all. Just think it’s out of line to impose their taste on the rest of the street so blatantly.
3) How do you know what I can and can’t ‘appreciate’ in general based on just one example? Whatever one’s taste I just don’t think it’s good to draw attention to oneself in this way.
dh, go to that thread where Mr. B is selling URLs and pick yourself up http://www.pinkstoner.com
“Or you own property on that street.”
yeah – they’d much prefer the block to look like a giant skidmark in someone’s tighty whiteys.
I’d rent this in a heartbeat. The apartment looks totally beautiful. Aren’t most one bedroom floor-throughs in “prime” areas about $2,000 a month? Plus don’t forget you could join the Park Slope Food Coop!!!!!!!!!
Did I miss something?
“If you consider this an eyesore or get nauseous looking at it, you have lost the notion of fun and whimsy in your life. ”
Or you own property on that street.
>i wish more people would paint their houses bright cheery colors. this is one of the reasons i am so against landmarking!
Scary that I agree with you Rob. Paint should not be in the purview of LPC. And I intend to start a Painted Brownstones movement when I get the energy and time.
Smart Mr. Henry. If he painted his brownstone pink to keep his taxes low, he certainly succeeded, below are the 2009 annual taxes the pink house compared to the adjoining houses.
