Sotheby’s has a rental on the market, 425 Keap Street, which is called “one of the original residential buildings in Williamsburg.” The 1,500-square-foot apartment’s undergone a pretty complete reno but there’s still original tile and exposed brick for those needing a taste of the old world. The $4,200-a-month price tag, however, seems better suited for the other side of the BQE, don’t you think?

  1. Other side of the BQE — more like the other side of the river!

Someone is smoking crack if they think they will get that rent.

Lofts like this are hard to divide up, and this isn’t even that big. Plus only one bathroom.

  2. This is obviously priced thinking there will be 3 or 4 roommates who will carve the place up.

Shouldn’t be more than 3k a month. You can get a 2 bedroom in one of the large tenements on Borinquen for 1800 a month – and this place isn’t much nicer.

I do like this little nook of the neighborhood though – nothing going on in the immediate blocks – but less than 10 minute walk to every other part of the nabe you’d want to hang.

  3. quote:
This is a regular apartment building. Why did they make it look like raw loft space?

so josh and megan can tell everyone back home on the farmland that they are living a true nyc loft experience lifestyle? i mean really, that IS the reason.

  4. What wber said. There was nothing original. The building was a shell. For years and years and years. When I moved out of this immediate area in 2000, they were starting renovation. It was supposed to be subsidized housing. (At least I thought?)

Incidentally, I think there was also some fast and loose playing with the rules that went into making these apartments market rate… the “community space” downstairs is like, the building owner’s art gallery or something?

And, finally, they were listing for about 3500 a few years ago. (Why do I even know this? It is scary.)

This is what I heard (literally) on the street about the project, so it may not all be correct.
