This one-bedroom at 434 Greene Avenue is located in a townhouse in Bed Stuy and has some of the nice architectural details you’d expect from such a set up: high ceilings, fireplace, original floors. The asking rent was recently reduced from $1,400 to $1,300 but the broker is still trying to pass the place off as being in Clinton Hill. Nice try. Fair price?

  1. “Wait a minute, Dh…you just described half the blocks in Williamsburg and Bushwick, but they charge twice this price!! :)”

no crack houses! and the buildings are stalled, not burnt out!! 😉

So we’re saying 1300 bucks for a shabby 1 bedroom on the same block as a crack house and burnt out shell of a building is a good price? makes me feel really good about my rent.

sing it sister! seriously, i feel like people have no concept of of value.

  4. Money does come from somewhere. Remember what salaries were in the 1990s? They’re higher now – in every realm (if not in real $). It’s called inflation. And the Pratt market is huge, and this is in the right spot.

  5. My place is about 5-7 minutes walk from this, closer to Fulton, and people on my block are getting $1600-2000 for 2 bedrooms and one neighbor gets $3000 for a 3 bedroom. I don’t think the price is bad at all for the neighborhood in general. BUT, this is the block that had the crack house and then the dreadful fire last year. It’s a long block and the Bedford end is nice, but the Nostrand end is dodgy.
