Rental of the Day: 114 Dean Street
This duplex, two-bedroom Boerum Hill rental at 114 Dean Street looks like a suitable spot for a family. Throw in the home office, big kitchen, and rather lovely backyard and it makes a nice package. $5,500 a month for 2,500 square feet of space also seems in line with area prices. Thoughts? 114 Dean Street…

Getting back to the actual unit – who would want their kitchen sink IN their dining table? Well, I guess it makes for easy clean-up?!
Yeah, Bolder… I’m sure the landlord would be happy to rent this place to someone with only 2X annual rent for income!
This is basically a $1 million mortgage payment and well over $1,000 a month for maintenance/utilities. (of course taking into account the tax deduction)

hahahahh.

You would only have to take home the yearly rent and utils on this, plus whatever your living expenses are. So if your living expenses are 50k a year, you’d only have to take home 120k a year to afford this — that’s not 300k pretax.
Fact is, this is a better deal than buying, and it’s not like there are hundreds of renovated family sized apartments in prime neighborhoods going begging.
don’t listen to tybur. he’ll make you want to sell your house and move to portlandia.
Nomi — $300k is most definitely GOBS and GOBS of money. But I’m sure you’re one of those folks that thinks “middle class” encompasses everything from $30,000 a year to $600,000. Cuz, $600,000 probably doesn’t even count as a lot because… well… that can only get you X Y Z in this city!
Guess what! THAT’S THE PROBLEM!
i would say a gob is 100K

The building is 22 x 46 ft, so it’s not 2,500 sq. ft, it’s 2,000.
Ok. I must leave my apartment now. When I come home, I want to see an answer to my gob question. I will be disappointed if no one tells me how much one gob is….
