Rental of the Day: 114 Dean Street
This duplex, two-bedroom Boerum Hill rental at 114 Dean Street looks like a suitable spot for a family. Throw in the home office, big kitchen, and rather lovely backyard and it makes a nice package. $5,500 a month for 2,500 square feet of space also seems in line with area prices. Thoughts? 114 Dean Street…

Andrew Luke, this may be an ideal place for a neighborhood family renovating their brownstone to live in for the year. So maybe someone reading this blog is the most likely customer.
Many middle class brownstone Bklyn families live in far less space. This is quite large for a family with 2 kids, or even 3 (2 can easily share the bedroom, or 1 sometimes uses the “office” as a bedroom). And families pay more for a backyard. I do agree $5,500/month is much too high, but the space is fine for a family with 2 or 3 kids.
Dean St would be nicer than Bergen since it’s not a bus route like Bergen is.
The location in general is pretty great. Not too sure about the price. I kind of feel it’s at least one grand more than what it should be it’s a lot of space and the entire yard to yourself.
I agree with Rob.
To ble to afford this place you need to be making a bare minimum of like 300k.
If you make 300k and are renting, wtf are you doing reading a blog about buying and renovating homes Clearly you have no interest in it, as if you did you’d have bought your own damn place by now.
So a “family” (it’s 2 bedrooms, so we’re talking about 1 kid and 1 or 2 parents) with a $200,000+ per year income is really wasting $66,000/yr of their money on a place like this? This is what folks with a crapload more money than me do with their riches?
I really would love to understand this.
i really wish these absurd as hell rental of the day posts would just go the way of the dodo. they are not indicative of true rents in the slightest and seem cherry picked just so home owners can pat themselves on their back and gloat about their ever so fabulously expensive properties. bitch, please.

oh wait – i’m thinking of bergen being awesome btw smith and hoyt – not sure about dean.
odd layout – all the living areas are on the garden level, and bedrooms are on the parlor.
can’t beat the location though
Is $2750 per bedroom in line with reality?! (regardless of the area)
