  1. slopefarm, Verizon has the palm pre now. they’ll soon have the google nexus one and possibly the iphone.

if you’re looking for more basics vs bells and whisltes, better to stay away from the fancy phones (iphone, droid, nexus one, palm pre,….) cause the plans on them are pricier than ones on the non-fancy phone.

just go get yourself a blackberry or 1 of those flip-out keyboard phones.

  2. As it happens, I was with my niece and her friends at Union Hall on Friday night and then Loki Lounge after that. It’s definitely a great venue for a drinkup, although it might be a bit loud at night for those who prefer quieter venues.

  3. Morning all,

I know this was covered a while back quite contentiously, but I wasn’t at all focused on it. ATT & I-phone v. Verizon & droid? Which is better as a phone? As a personal organizer? Is one plan better financially than the other? Any major differences in apps that would matter? Who’s looked at this recently and reached a well-reasoned conclusion on the merits/drawbacks of each. We’re slowly emerging form the iron age and this is all about convenience and minimizing gadgets and costs, not video games or bells and whistles. Thanks, much.

P.S. It was great hanging out with benson, jester, rob, noki and arkady on Sat. And Loki Lounge looks like a nice spot for a future PLUSA gathering.

P.P.S. Has anyone been to that new restaurant in the old carriagehouse hidden way back in the alley behind Loki? Cool space.

  4. M4L, LOL! Although people of Vancouver are known to smoke something else. I think a lot of Canadians were very upset with that slogan given most Canadians are comfortably self-deprecating types who are not prone to such bravado. It was rather embarrassing, actually. Even more embarrassing when they’re around fourth or fifth in the medal standings and nowhere close to the US. Then again, realistic Canadians all knew there was no chance of finishing first in overall medals.

    biff,

I heard that the slogan was developed by the same marketing firm that put Bush in a jump suit and printed the banner:

    Mission Accomplished.

    😉

  5. Rob, with the exception of living in Tokyo and Kansas City (my other expatriate work experience) I always worked downtown – and until recently, I worked at a commodity exchange near the World Trade Center where they had the most unbelievable security (Had to go through airport type security everyday…). And then outside the exchange were paramilitary type guys (dressed all in black) with automatic rifles, jack boots, the whole bit. It wasn’t everyday, but sometimes as part of random exercises, there would be 10 or so of them, hanging around outside with dogs. It was really freaky/horrible but part of the new world we are living in. A kind of cool and unexpected benefit was finding out how wonderful Black Labradors are —
these dogs were trained as bomb sniffers and there was one (now retired) named Sally who was the most loveable dog and she used to go through the halls and everyone including me was nuts about her.
