I feel like I should say something about the “new advertising format” M. B prematurely launched in the HOTD thread (he suggested we discuss it here), but it would be something like Charlie Brown in Charlie Brown’s Christmas conmplaining about rampant commercialism. As this experince shows, if he goes that route, he’s going to end up deleting lots of posts to keep advertisers happy, but that will make the threads nonseniscal and blow a hole in the site’s credibility. I know this is a money-making venture for Mr. B, and don’t begrudge him, but this one seemed icky and threatened the brand, imho.
While we’re not in the habit of defending advertisers and wish that widget hadn’t launched by mistake before it was ready, we specifically went forward with developing that HOTD sponsorship with FD because we actually like and use the brand quite regularly–it’s high quality and convenient in our experience. And because it’s not directly real estate-related, we thought that it posed no conflict for being positioned so closely with the house of the day.
Fresh Direct is in the process of going public but there’s no prospectus registered yet. It’ll be interesting to see what the numbers look like. I thought they were in more cities across the country, but no, only here.
I don’t get it…why talk of FreshDirect on that thread?
Are they still as popular anyway? Seems like used to see their trucks all the time. I think the fad is fading.
thanks cgar. 11217 clearly misinterpreted what i was commenting on anyway.
