  1. I think that, if we put our heads together, we could force this troll out of his little rabbit hole.

As CHP pointed out, the troll is undoubtedly someone who regularly reads and perhaps posts to this site because he was back here in a heartbeat once the registration system came down. And my guess is that he is not a professional hacker but someone who already knows CHP through some other connection. Furthermore, if it is someone who is known to CHP, that would explain his weird vendetta against her.

CHP, I think you know this person. Any thoughts?

  2. Sorry about that, you’re right, her name wasn’t in the posts themselves. It’s not quite that simple, but you still don’t have to be a hacker to find it. Nuff said. Don’t want to make it easier to harrass the poor woman than it already has been.

  3. You don’t have to be a hacker to figure out her name. It was printed in one of the posts a few weeks ago about the architectural gems of Crown Heights North, I believe. I’m not a hacker, just a regular reader, and I saw it. Whoever the troll is, they could have found it there too.

  4. I actually think that the Pacific house is a good deal, especially if it can be had with a $1.4 handle. Nice exterior. Great block in Boerum Hill, a beautiful nabe. Yes, it needs interior work but most homes do and at this price point why would you expect otherwise? I think it’s priced to move.

  5. Do you know who this person is?

If not, then how do you know that he is not a hacker?

It seems to me you are thinking only about yourself and your personal desire to bring back registration and not about the best interest of the site.

  6. wrong. Unless you’re a professional hacker, you can’t access that information. It doesn’t even go into brownstoner’s database. I’m not flaming you for telling people to protect themselves- that’s good advice. I am replying to your posting erroneous information regarding the typekey registration.

  7. The *post* happened after the registration was dropped, but the information could only have been *acquired* while registration was in effect. If there’d been no registration, there’d have been no information to have been acquired in the first place. You can rant all you like about the way typekey is supposed to work. The simple truth is that computer security is and will always be a matter of degree, and things will go wrong. If you want to protect yourself and your identity, DO NOT SHARE IT. It seems weird that I should be flamed for telling people to protect themselves.
