I agree 7:41pm. It’s our responsibility to deal with the troll not Mr. B’s. All we have to ignore him. That’s not too much to ask.
I find this thread and the entire history of this troll profoundly discouraging. Yes, I know the troll stinks. Yes, I know he is a cad. We all know that. But then, why do some people PERSIST in talking about him, and complaining about him…and complaining about him? This is precisely the kind of attention that will keep bringing him back to this site, and I dare say that he must be experiencing absolute glee at the attention we\’ve lavished on him today. Why is this so difficult for people to understand? Why?
And those of you who keep harping on registration, please. As one earlier poster pointed out, this is an ad-supported site. In case you didn\’t catch that, I said it is an \”ad-supported site\”. And like it or not, more people will visit this site if it is free and open to anonymous posting, and this will in turn make it more attractive to advertisers.
If you hate the troll and want to be rid of him, stop feeding him. Just don\’t! If you love this site and want to do what, in the end, is best for the site and for everyone involved, give the registration issue a rest.
Whew. Sorry but I had to get that off my chest.
Does anyone know why the Pacific Street open house was cancelled today? It’s pretty annoying that both the Times and the Fillmore site listed the open house, only to have a small sign on the door stating that it was cancelled (especialy for people that went out of their way to go to see the place).
I recall a while back there was a Brownstoner open house pick (maybe it was that Clinton Hill-Lefforts Place pick?) where the open house was cancelled and the agent notified Brownstoner who then corrected it on the Friday before the open house. While one cannot expect every agent to do that (especaiily because one cannot expect every agent to read Brownstoner), but it’s hard to believe that an agent cannot even correct the listing on his own site.
I guess, Bob, the troll illustrates the reason. There is nothing wrong with posting under your own name- I wish the internet didn’t make me so nervous that I could be comfortable doing so. The closest I can come is using a consistent handle. Which, like a lot of others now, will no longer do. I also guess most of the other lists you’re on are special interest lists and require registration. But this one doesn’t- or at least seems to no longer.
I’m sure CHP is extremely upset by this turn of events- I would be, having a cyber stalker. This is a localized site based in Brooklyn. Probably 95% of us live here so If they know your name, they could very well know where you live. And that’s really really creepy. We know how malicious the troll is. So I wonder why Mr. B, after a majority of people said keep registration, has suddenly dropped it? And without a word.
Anon. 6:45
I don’t know that you should be THAT paranoid. What you seem to be hinting at wouldn’t make much sense IMO.
frankly, what superanon says makes me even more paranoid. Why has the troll been able to circumvent Mr. B? It’s not possible he’s posting from 12 different computers so it doesn’t leave too many logical choices. Only one person can’t be blocked and would know personal information. Not liking what I’m thinking.
IF this creep could be effectively blocked there probably would no need for registration, but AFAIK Mr. B has tried to block trolls before with limited success–I think that’s why he started registration in the first place.
BTW, what’s wrong with posting under one’s actual name? I seem to be almost the only one doing it here, but I’m on numerous other lists where people use their real names.
Nice to have the site back, open to all. Well done, Mr. B.
I agree. The troll knows CHP personally and is obviously a scorned and bitter person and perhaps in need of serious psychiatric care. Nonetheless, Mr. B can easily identify the troll through his or her URL and thus has the ability to out the sorry bastard. With that being said, why can’t the troll be blocked from this site? It’s been done to numerous agitators over the years but for some inexplicable reason this troll continues to have access to this site. That’s the issue at hand. Why are others easily blocked from this site while the troll is permitted to wreck havoc with impunity. Only Mr. B can answer this very simple question.
