The Brooklyn Paper reports that the NYPD will begin a borough-wide bike crackdown in a few weeks. More moving violations will be issued for the the failure to obey traffic signs and signals, surpassing the speed limit, tailgating, and failure to signal before turning. While the numbers of bicyclists is growing and the bike lanes on Prospect Park West have caused controversy, cops claim the reason for the crackdown is because bike accidents have been up. Some bikers aren’t convinced. Rider Lacy Tauber think cops should “focus on drivers,” while bike advocate Baruch Herzfeld thinks this could further strain the relationship between bikers and cops.
Bikelash! Cops to Crack Down on 2-Wheelers [Brooklyn Paper]
pitbulls are more likely to bite someone, way more than golden retreivers, but who gives a shit. they both need to be leashed for the protection of people who dont wanna be bitten. so the argument of what is more dangerous IS moot
*rob*
Actually, a pitbull raised by a nice family is probably one of the least likely breeds to bite. Look it up. And most of Michael Vick’s dogs were adopted with no problems.
Unfortunately, pitbulls are the leading breed in terms of the percentage who are raised by vicious thugs.
a crackdown is good cuz cyclists have been getting a little too mouthy lately.

cops aint too busy to crack down on ALL wreckless drivers AND cyclists. to keep saying drivers are worst etc does NOT mean cyclists shouldn’t be cracked down on. besides, not like they doing this 24/7/365. EVERY law breaking set of folks deserves some spotlight at some pt in time with the cops.
Thank you, DitmasSnark. Happy New Year to you too. I disagree, Happy New Year to you too. I usually have more of a sense of humor. See ya.
again, no one said they deserve a free pass. the point is they don’t deserve a crackdown. get it?
@Biff said: “Unless one absolutely needs one’s car for work or has an emergency, there was no reason for anyone to get that worked up over the loss of their car for a day or two.”
Okay Biff, here the situation. My 85 year old father goes for dialysis three times per week at 6am. He is completely ambulatory so he either drives himself or takes a cab. He can take public transportation, but prefers not to as the walk to his dialysis center requires him to go down a fairly deserted block and he doesn’t want to be mugged. On Sunday afternoon he decided to go to the hospital for treatment rather than wait for his Monday appointment. He was able to get a cab because at the time there was only about 2-3 inches of snow on the ground. By the time he was finished, he was unable to return home because the snow was so bad. He spent Monday at the hospital in a waiting room as my car was completely snowed in, no buses were running and he couldn’t navigate over 3 feet of snow to get to a bus stop even if one were running. On Tuesday he again went to the hospital clinic for treatment. We were able to get a cab to pick him up Tuesday afternoon and bring him back home. He was lucky in that his doctor was at the hospital the entire time, and he is well known at the hospital clinic so the nurses looked out for him, making sure he had a blanket and a comfortable chair. Not having access to a car can be LIFE THREATENING for older New Yorkers and people who require regular access to medical treatment or medication.
As for the bike crackdown, the only folks riding in January are the deliverymen and the die-hards. I doubt any of them will change their habits even if the get a ticket or two.
if she had said DANGEROUS CHAOS!! i might have believed it.
bxgrl – Hi there! Happy New Year!
Donatella – I’ll stop yanking your chain. Hope you feel better, and Happy New Year to you as well.
So far, have heard NO legitimate reason why wreckless cyclists should not be targeted. just because there’s a bigger ass wipe (be it drivers or something else) doesnt preclude smaller ass wipes a free pass / waiver.
