Lots of Stores Still for Rent on Flatbush

With the recent renting of Royal Video, the construction in the old Dunkin Donuts spot, and the arrival of a grocer/deli on Flatbush Avenue, we wondered if that stretch of Flatbush was picking up. When we walked down Flatbush Avenue a year ago from Dean Street to Prospect Place we found nine empty storefronts in those three blocks. This year, the tally has been one-upped to ten empty storefronts in the same three blocks. There is some construction at 239 Flatbush, and the eating establishments we mentioned are moving in, but that’s still a notable amount of unused space for what’s a pretty high-traffic stretch.
Lots of Stores for Rent on Flatbush [Brownstoner]
What’s the deal with Flatbush Farm? I popped in there last night for a pre dinner beverage and everyone working there looked like they wanted to die.
They have delicious cupcakes at BKLYN Larder at Bergen and Flatbush.
They also have great fresh bread.
Tritto on the Ricky’s. Every year I ask the sales people at the Halloween store if they plan to open a regular store soon and the answer is always “we hope so.” The other kind of place we need is a good bakery. Cakes, pies and cupcakes are nowhere to be found on this stretch.
Ricky’s would be great. They do a pop up store every year for Halloween on Bergen and Flatbush and always surprised they don’t find a more permanent location.
I think a Ricky’s would do well along that strip.
Maybe they could all become FroYo shops, 11217.
Pintchik uses those yellow for rent signs, so from what I can tell in these pictures, at least a few of them are Pintchik owned…
Problem is that Park Slope has practically everything. Between 7th Avenue, 5th Avenue, now 4th Avenue and Flatbush, it’s difficult to think of things the area really and truly NEEDS. Sure, I could think of some stuff I want, but there’s a LOT of retail in this neighborhood.
If it’s true that Pintchik owns a lot of these buildings, that bodes well in the long term. That stretch of Bergen is great. Could be, as you suggest, that the owners (whoever they are) are holding out until the arena is built.
Atlantic Avenue is high traffic and it seems to be flourishing right now.
I think that many of these storefronts are owned by Pintchik Hardware and they have been actively trying to find more upscale tenants (who pay more obviously) for the spaces which turn over along here.
What they’ve done along Bergen between 5th and Flatbush is a perfect example.
As the arena gets built, this strip is going to be extremely sought after, in my opinion.
