171 was a House of the Day back in 2009 when the Brooklyn Heights brownstone was asking $2,850,000. At the time, we called the price reasonable but it was taken off the market after only two weeks so we never got to see if we were right. Now we’ll get a chance: The single-family pad has just come back on the market, this time asking $3,100,000. Given that the market’s stronger than it was two years ago and the compelling combination of location and old-school charm, we think this shouldn’t have any trouble clearing the $3 million mark.

  1. I will admit i don’t hate it. The books and the some of the paint choices could be better, but you get the feel of luxury and comfort here. The kitchen cabinets have too much “peasant” from the pic (and too few, should have gone all the way up). The 4th floor bathroom door is in an odd place but would work well for a live-in nanny. Overall, very homey but might seem smaller in person.

  2. Ex, by bad layout you mean it doesn’t look sufficiently like a modern house?
The hallways are wonderful features of these houses. you need to visit more intact historic houses to better understand how they are used by the families who own and appreciate them.

  3. In closing, putting the furniture aside, I think this is a great house, with a great layout and beautiful old features (stair, mantles, plaster). I hope it gets 3 million. It should.
